(Memory?)Fatal error: too many messages to convert ???

... i tried to convert from 1 Gold - SP 1.3 to YaBB SE Version 1.5.4... everything was OK until step 5 :

...Importing Messages
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted at (null):0 (tried to allocate 1620 bytes) in www. .../home/yabbse/converter.php on line 774

Could anyone help me? THKS

Ask your host to allow your script more memory... for at least this conversion.

Hi Unknown...i'm not sure to "see" the answer: when you wrote

you where meaning "more disk space" on  MySql database or else?
-The actual free space on the MySql server is 46 Megs
-the previous 1 Gold - SP 1.3 has  700 subscribed members,  2000 topics and 17000 posts... (7,66 Megs in the messages folder, 1,24 Megs in the members folder and 208 Kb in the boards folder...) . Thanks a lot for your help...

Memory and space are very different things.  Memory is used for temporary storage... space is used for permanent storage.

You, I think, have more than enough space.  That is not the problem.

However, PHP has a setting - which, in this case, is set to 8mb - that limits the amount of temporary memory your script is allowed to use.  As you might think, the converter takes quite a bit of temporary memory.

This setting is in php.ini.  You'll have to ask your host if they will, even for a few minutes while you convert, increase the value to 16M or so.

Thanks Unknown...in the next days il'll try to get more memory available for PHP...in the meanwhile i've tried to reduce the amount of messages to convert (deleting those older than 30 days...) and  the conversion process has vorked fine...
