Database duplicator

Hi there!

I am in the process of upgrading my board from 1.3.1 to 1.5.3.  This is not the usual upgrade, I installed 1.5.3 fresh in a separate folder while keeping the existing board untouched.  The reason is to keep the existing forum alive while I do some custom tweaking to the template and a few modules and also be able to test everything without disturbing normal board traffic and usage.

Now the new board is practically finished and ready to be launched.  But I need to transfer the database first before I apply the database update.  What I was trying to do was to dump the whole thing using phpMyAdmin but I can only download the resulting .sql file to my computer and then re-upload the entire thing again to run a restore script that creates a duplicate database with a different name.  I am having a problem with the download part in that the .sql file never comes out complete, probably because I am downloading at dial-up speed.

Anyhow, I find this step of downloading and uploading completely unnecessary.

How can I do the database dump and leave the resulting .sql file in the web server, or better yet, simply duplicate the database in a single step?

Is there a script that will do that?  I don't know PHP or mySQL although I do know Perl.

Yes, I wrote a script like that....

I don't know where I put it, but... it basically was a short PHP script that used SHOW CREATE TABLE and CREATE TABLE ... SELECT to do the job.  Pretty simple.

Could you provide a link?  I searched the Completed Mods forum for the word "duplicate" and none of the results had to do with duplicating a database.

Well, the database duplicator is no longer needed.  I found an alternate solution.  My web host provides a database backup utility that produces a compressed file I could download entirely.  I did just that, downloaded a backup of the database and applied the upgrade to the live forum.  Everything went ok and now I finally have an up to date YaBB SE 1.5.3 forum.
