howto restore database into new yabbse install

The converter ran, but yabbse 1.51rc1 never worked right after the upgrade...I installed a clean copy of 1.51rc1, and need import my old database into it...how can i do this?  i tried replacing the database in mysql, although i only get the boardindex to show up my boards, and i get an invalid board if i try to click on any of them...thanks in advance for helping me out...
