This is a quote (including my reply) from a post to our new board this afternoon:

I have been experienc[ing] trouble when I reply to a message using Windows XP home and Netscape 7.0. It just hangs and hangs. If I exit Netscape and come back the message has posted.

I've had a few like that with Win 2K Pro and IE6. Since no-one else had reported it, I was wondering if it was just me. But I've also experienced fleeting problems on every bulletin board I've ever visited so, although I'll be looking into it, I'd try to worry too much about it at the moment!

And this is a quote from an email just received from one of my fellow admins:

QuoteI received the below email from xxxx. I was having the same problems last night... the post is there but you have to abort/close the browser to be able to proceed!

The problem was sporadic for me last night.

Do you know what it could be?

yyyy,

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know of a problem I have replying to topics at PixelParity.  When I reply it takes what seems to be forever to post.  Most of the time I just click stop or close the browser and reopen it.  My post is there so everything is cool, but it is annoying. This happens about every other post, and I have used Netscape 7 and IE 6.  As I was typing this a left it alone to see how long it would take to finish the post (if ever) well it took 4 minutes (I am on Cable).

Just thought you should know. Is this normal?

We're currently on one of the most recent 1.5.1RC1 builds (43 or 44, I think), but I've had a look at [Unknown]'s list of changes and failed to spot anything in 45 that would cure this. Also searched for 'reply' (over 300 results!) and 'hang', but failed to pull up anything through 'match all words'. We have a test account at the board (username=pixeltest and password=testpixel) if anyone needs to take a look.

Thanks in anticipation to anyone who can help here! :)

I have had this happen to me before (using 1.4.1)... also various members of my board.

When i click post.. it just hangs.. If i click back then post again normally posts fine.

If I look in the error log, it reports No Subject?!

Think we might have solved this one, since everything's been absolutely flying for the past couple of days!

First thing I did was to comment out the clicklog but, although that briefly appeared to make a difference, I think it was probably just a coincidence of timing.

But then I discovered that, although our phpinfo showed ZLib Support as 'enabled', both Master and Local Values for zlib.output_compression were shown as 'off'. So I unchecked 'Enable Compressed Output' in Installed 'Mods' Settings and Options and everything's been running beautifully ever since. If that was the problem I suppose we can do something about the PHP settings, but we're happy enough just to see the board flying as it is at the moment! :)
