sometimes i get the following error when users try to post:

Ran into problems sending Mail. Error: 554 Connect to your mailbox before sending mail via this relay

does it have something to do with my mail server?

if so why does it need to mess with the mail server to post someting

Some people have notifications set for that topic.

It just so happens that your mail server is configured not to allow sending email unless you first check it (via pop3.)

This is a security issue.  You can ask your host to turn it off, or just get a new mail server.

it does not happen all the time and these people are not asking to be notified of replies

also i noticed that with yabbse 1.4.1 if you started to fill out a message and then hit back on your browser and forward again the message was left in tack..but with 1.5.1 its not

Look, that's what the error message says is happening, whether or not it's true.

Anyhow, I'd really like to know why people think the "forms get cleared" issue is an html dependent one.  I'll say it now, and I'm sure I'll be saying it again: unless you have expressly set the option to send cache clearing headers, (which was an option in 1.4.x) the back/forward stuff is handled ENTIRELY by the browser.

So go bug M$.

thanks that clears things up but 2 more questions

is there a way to set the option to send cache clearing headers in 1.5.1?

is there a way to fix the mail problems through yabbse or is it a totally independent function of my mail server?
how is sendmail different from smtp?

Yes, look in modsettings.

SMTP is used primarily on windows, sendmail on *nix.  Kinda depends.

If you are having problems, and the error message mentions the word 'relay', you might need to enter your mail password in mod settings... otherwise, you might want to take it off.

Who knows?  Post some information about your problems and I will help more.

my mail server in the yabbse settings is configured properly

i looked up the error on google and it brought me to my server what a surprise error 554 relating to mail is very specific

anyway they are blaiming that error the fact that ISPs usually only allow outgoing mail through their servers

i thought this was only the case for outlook and other mail programs.... and not web based applications and websites

is this the difference between yabbse 1.4.1 and 1.5.1 ...that they send mail a little differently? i never got these errors in 1.4.1

i hope you can understand my question i am not quite sure how to put it

1.4.1 never checked the POP3 first either.

You will have to switch mail servers.

If you make sure "Disable output caching" in mod settings is unticked then the message will be still there.

Not sure if 1.5.1 is the same though
