Checking from an external page whether users are logged in or not...

Hi there,

I have my board set up, it works great! Now, on my site index, which is in another directory then the board, I'd like to show a small box that displays the user information.

Logged in? -> Welcome user, you have 0 new messages
Not logged in? -> Login form and register link.

Is there a mod that does this?
If not, does anyone have any idea about this?

you have to include SSI.php (<? include ('path/to/SSI.php'); ?>)
$username is set to 'Guest' if you're not logged in

It should appear in the box below left, "Wie is online", but it's just blanco. Why is this?

you have to include ssi.php before any code is parsed! it has to be the very first in your script!

http://www.beaverke.com/retabo/dev/cont/index.php has it at the very top, before anything else is done. Now why don't i see a box or so, is there a function i have to refer to?

Isn't there any tut for this?
